"Never Run Away From a Challenge" I have found through my experience with makeup, you can almost brighten anyones day. Once I was put in a situation with the wonderful entertainer, Mr. Barry White. I was in New Jersey to see one of his great shows. His two background singers were introduced to me by the great musical conductor Mr. H.B. Barnum. When they heard that I was the owner of Elessia Cosmetics and a makeup artist, they pleaded with me to do their faces. I explained to them that I only brought my own makeup with me and I didn't bring any other colors, since I was only there to see the concert. But they insisted that I help them, so I said I would do the best that I could. They were both two different complexions--neither close to mine. However, my cosmetics are designed to be very versatile. So I took my cover cream (which is actually designed to be applied under the eyes), and I used it as their foundation. It was almost miraculous the way my under-the-eye cream and my powder mixed together to enhance their skin tones. In addition, I gently spread my blush out on their faces. Even though they were under lights and moving around on stage, the colors on their cheeks were perfectly even. I wanted their lips to be beautiful, so I colored them with Elessia's Lip Pencils, adding my gloss over the top. They were both very, very, greatful, and still are to this day. I'm sure that they will never forget it, I know that I won't. It was truly a challenging experience. But when you have the right cosmetics and skin care you can do almost anything. |

"Beauty is in The Eye of the Beholder" There was a young lady with Down Syndrome and she was with her mother. I stopped them as they were walking by my counter. Previously, they saw me selling makeup and skin care but they looked like they never thought that I would even look their way--but I always want to see people smile, so I did. The young lady was very reluctant at first but her mother and I persuaded her to just give it a try.
Her mother commented on how beautiful her daughter looked, and then she asked what can I buy that will give her the same look without spending a lot of money. So I pulled out the moisturizer because her skin was very dry, the foundation to add just a little color, one eye shadow to soften her eyes, and a lipstick. I told her mother to put a little bit of the eye shadow on her cheek for color. I kept it very simple because I didn't want the enhancing of her beauty to seem like a chore. Sometimes, when you use too much makeup, it can begin to feel like a big ordeal to apply it. Using makeup should be exciting and fun. They loved the makeup I offered and purchased everything that I suggested. I must admit in all these years of doing makeup that's truly one of the happiest moments of my life--to watch as the young lady and her mother got to see that in spite of any obstacles in life you can always look at yourself and say "Yes I am beautiful; I am as beautiful as I want to be." |
